Using the Windows graphical interface:
Windows XP
- Click on the Start Button. (Or locate "My Network Places" on the desktop, if present).
- Right-click on "My Network Places." Left-Click on "properties" in the drop down menu.
- In the Network Connections window, Right-click on "Wireless network connection."
- Select "Properties" from the drop-down list.
- Scroll down the list labeled "This connection uses the following items" to locate "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Click on that to highlight it.
- Select "Properties" (the right most tab below that window.
- Select "Advanced" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window that opens.
- Select the tab labeled "WINS"
- At the bottom of the WINS page, under NETBIOS, select EITHER "Default (Use NETBIOS setting from DHCP server)" OR "Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP."
- Click "OK."
- Click "OK" and then "CLOSE" to close the open dialog windows.
- Close the Network Connections window
Windows Vista
- Click on the Start Button.
- Right-click on "Network" Left-Click on "properties" in the drop down menu.
- In the Network and Sharing Center window locate the "Local Area Connection" and click on "View Status"
- Select "Properties".
- Scroll down the list labeled "This connection uses the following items" to locate "Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4?)." Click on that to highlight it.
- Select "Properties" (the right most tab below that window.
- Select "Advanced" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window that opens.
- Select the tab labeled "WINS"
- At the bottom of the WINS page, under NETBIOS, select EITHER "Default (Use NETBIOS setting from DHCP server)" OR "Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP."
- Click "OK."
- Click "OK" and then "CLOSE" to close the open dialog windows.
- Close the Network Connections window
