How does printing work with the Commodore Card?
To print from a public workstation, you will initiate the print job as usual from whatever application is being used, a web browser, Word, Excel, etc. For workstations in participating labs and libraries, the only printer accessible will be one controlled by the CSPrint software.
The process is simple:
- Push the print button and a pop-up window will tell you how many pages will be printed and how much it will cost.
- You will not be charged if you elect to cancel the print operation at this point.
- If you elect to continue the print operation, you will be prompted for your VUnetID and e-password.
- Your Commodore Cash automatically will pay for the prints.
- Pick up your print job at the indicated printer.
[The procedure is slightly different in labs with MacIntosh computers rather than Windows PCs,where you will swipe your Commodore Card at a release station.]
The cost for printing will be $.04/page for standard prints (non-color printer, 8 1/2 x 11 paper).
Once your VUNet ID and e-password have been entered and you click OK, the print job is released to the printer. The charge will be posted against your Commodore Cash account.
The system will prompt you every time a print request is sent, to insure that
no charges are posted against your account without your explicit authorization. The multiple
step process makes accidental printing virtually impossible. You will always see how many pages and how much each job will cost before you authorize the print job.
You can see a history of your printing (and other) transactions by logging on to the Commodore Card Office Webpage and reviewing your activity.
Library patrons who do not have a VUNet ID, but do have a valid library card (alumni/ae card, Library Use Card) can also activate and use a Commodore Cash account for public printing. Contact the Commodore Card office if you have not already activated this feature.
